A planned concert by renowned Bangladeshi rock artist James at a school in Faridpur was abruptly halted on Friday. According to The Daily Star, a crowd hurled stones and bricks at the venue, prompting the cancellation. Organizers stated that the assailants were not affiliated with the school and attempted to breach the premises and seize control of the stage. The event, celebrating the institution’s 185th anniversary, was scheduled to begin around 9 PM local time on the Faridpur District School grounds.
Attack carried out by outsiders
Organizers, as reported by bdnews24, declared that the attack was perpetrated by «outsiders.» They announced the concert’s cancellation, despite having finalized all arrangements, based on instructions from the Faridpur deputy commissioner.
The report further elaborated that the attackers attempted to force their way into the venue and hurled brickbats with the intention of taking over the stage. Rajibul Hasan Khan, heading the anniversary publicity and media subcommittee, voiced his confusion: «We had completed all preparations to make James’ concert a success. But we do not understand why, for what reason, or who carried out the attack.»
Students injured
Accounts indicate that approximately ten to fifteen students sustained injuries after being struck by stones thrown by assailants. Despite this, the students managed to fend off the attackers, compelling them to withdraw.
